With Ubuntu, one must mount the virtual CD and copy and extract the content, then run the executable. Below are detailed steps of the process. Step 3: Mount the Virtual CD on Ubuntu. Before you can install VMware Tools on the guest machine, you must first mount the Virtual CD with the tools. Virtual machines are isolated containers, so the guest operating system in the virtual machine doesn’t have access to your computer’s file system. You’ll have to set up shared folders in a program like VirtualBox or VMware to share files. I'm running a macbook air, and I installed virtual box and then a copy of windows on virtual box. However, when I copy text to the pasteboard from either the mac or the virtual machine, I cannot paste it into programs on the other machine.
Here’s something many of you probably already know. VirtualBox has a feature that allows you to copy and paste between the host machine and the guest machine or vice versa. If you don’t already know, this brief tutorial is going to show you how to enable it when using VirtualBox virtualization software.Another thing you probably already know is when you first install VirtualBox guest machine, the guest machine will not automatically integrate with the host. That means taking advantage of the host resources and improved performance. To allow the integration, you must install VirtualBox guest additions.Installing the guest additions software will also not automatically allow you to copy and paste between machines.
To enable that you must allow bidirectional shared clipboard on each machine. Without the shared clipboard feature enabled, you won’t be able to copy and paste between the host and the guest machines. This feature will come in handy especially if you’ll be enter a lot of text or data into the guest machine from the host.Instead of manually typing each character or enter data manually, you could simply select the text from the host and paste it into the guest machine and vice versa. To enable it, open VirtualBox and select the guest machine, then click the settings button or press Ctrl + S on your keyboard.Next, on the General page, select Advanced tab and make sure bidirectional is selected for Shared Clipboard as well as Drag’n’Drop options. All VM’s suck it’s not just VBOX, the closest thing to a real physically installed OS so far is by using QEMU. Also QEMU is probably the only VM/Emulator capable of assigning physical addressing of memory and processor and graphics that isn’t virtually addressed. Meaning you can run any OS near physically installed on OS.
There is one quirk to using QEMU though, its shit hard to learn but if you can get passed that then running games close native speeds is possible under a VM environment. As for those having clipboard problems with VBOX if you have internet working in your VM environment then try using an FTP client between guest and host.
